Fielding makes heads pop at the Sydney Morning Herald

The enviro-headbangers at the SMH are unable to comprehend how anyone isn't taken in 100% by the misrepresentations and political posturing of the IPCC (like Fairfax has been), and goes into full slime mode, in an article entitled "Senator blows hot and cold on science":
THE Family First senator Steve Fielding has challenged the work of thousands of the world's top scientists, saying he is not convinced by the work done by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. [Note no mention of the "thousands of top scientists" who disagree with the consensus - and I'm surprised they missed the chance to call it "the Nobel Prize-winning" IPCC - Ed]
...
Senator Fielding's newfound scepticism is a result of his trip to the US to listen to the Heartland Institute of Chicago, an organisation that is funded by the fossil-fuel industry. The organisation also believes public health campaigns against smoking are based on "junk science". [Note how the SMH attempts to smear the organisation, and avoids actually addressing Senator Fielding's arguments. Typical alarmist tactics. It's also amazing that no-one ever complains about the billions of dollars that flow from the green lobby to perpetuate climate alarmism, way more than has ever come from the "fossil fuel industry" - Ed]

One can almost hear the heads popping!

  • Simon,
I exchanged emails last over night with Robert Bast the Head honcho at the Heartland Institute.
These emails were in regards to "the Heartland Institute of Chicago, an organisation that is funded by the fossil-fuel industry.
The organisation also believes public health campaigns against smoking are based on "junk science".
    He said:
"To say The Heartland Institute is “funded by the fossil-fuel industry” when more than 95% of our revenue comes from other sources is simply dishonest."
    He also said:
"On the issue of smoking in particular, The Heartland Institute and I personally have never denied that smoking is harmful, nor do we have any reason to. Tobacco industry funding of Heartland is a trivial part of our overall funding, always has been, and our positions on the controversy predate any funding from the industry at all. Our point is only that the public health community – many of whom are every bit as activist and partisan as the global warming crowd, as you probably know – have exaggerated the threats, especially of second-hand smoke (or environmental tobacco smoke), to advance their own agendas."

Since the Institute is 'funded' by both the fossil fuel industry and the tobacco industry does it now follow that the Alcohol industry is to blame for the road deaths from drink drivers and the car manufacturers are responsible for all road deaths in general?
How about blaming the alcohol industry for all alcohol related injuries caused by drunk people assaulting each other?

    Same logic I would say!
