Idiotic Comment of the Day - Steve Fielding

The Family First Senator wins his first ACM ICOTD Gong for this beauty:
DIVORCE adds to the impact of global warming as couples switch to wasteful single lifestyles, Family First senator Steve Fielding says.

He told a Senate hearing on today that divorce led to a "resource-inefficient lifestyle" and it would be better for the planet if couples stayed married.

When couples separate, they need more rooms, more electricity and more water, which increases their carbon footprint.

"We understand that there is a social problem (with divorce), but now we're seeing there is also environmental impact as well on the footprint," Senator Fielding said.

Bravo - a worthy winner.

Read it here.

UPDATE: Check out Steve Fielding's new position on AGW here - it's quite a reversal!

  • I find this one funny and yet interesting. It may be off-track but when you come to think of it, it is indeed true. The results of divorce indeed contributes to the worsening of global warming. So couples? Stay happy and married!

  • It is probably true that two individuals have a larger "carbon footprint" than a married couple, but all this is only relevant if CO2 is the primary driver of climate, which it almost certainly isn't.

It wins the award because it is a classic example of the desperate way in which politicians link anything and everything to "global warming"...

  • No, no, a thousand times NO.

Married people BREED. They create the next generation that will suffer for our profligate lifestyles.

Climate disruption (get with the program guys, this is the new buzz word) can only be prevented if the population lived in gender separated dormitories.

Think about the children, Mr Fielding. The children.
